Description
Octane Render for Cinema 4D Overview
Otoy Renderer, better known as OctaneRender, is a powerful GPU-accelerated rendering engine developed by OTOY Inc. It is widely known for its speed and high output quality, using the power of graphics processing units (GPUs) to perform operations in real-time.
Octane Render for Cinema 4D Features
OctaneRender is designed to take advantage of the massive parallel processing power of GPUs, making it significantly faster than traditional CPU-based rendering engines.
Real-time preview:
One of OctaneRender’s standout features is its ability to provide real-time feedback and previews. This allows artists to instantly see changes and adjustments, improving the creative workflow.
Physically-based rendering (PBR):
OctaneRender uses a physically-based rendering model to simulate realistic lighting and material interactions, resulting in highly photorealistic images.
Spectral rendering:
The engine uses spectral rendering techniques, which means it calculates light in terms of real-world wavelengths, resulting in more accurate color representation and light behavior.
Nodal workflow:
OctaneRender includes a node-based system for material, texture, and scene management. This provides flexibility and a high degree of control over complex scenes.
Integration with 3D software:
OctaneRender supports a wide range of 3D applications, including Cinema 4D, 3ds Max, Maya, Blender and more. This integration helps streamline the workflow for artists using different platforms.
Network rendering support:
OctaneRender supports distributed rendering across multiple GPUs in a network, which can significantly reduce rendering times for large and complex scenes.
Versatile material system:
The renderer supports a wide range of materials, including complex shaders, subsurface scattering and volume rendering, allowing you to create varied and complex surfaces.
Extensive plugin ecosystem:
OctaneRender has a variety of plugins available that extend its functionality and provide seamless integration with various 3D modeling and animation software.
Use cases
Visual effects (VFX):
OctaneRender is widely used in the visual effects industry to create photorealistic scenes, environments and special effects.
Architectural Visualization:
Its ability to create realistic images makes it a popular choice for architectural visualization, where accurate lighting and material representation are critical.
Product Design:
Product designers use OctaneRender to create high-quality product images for marketing, presentations, and concept development.
Animation:
Animators benefit from its speed and quality, allowing them to create detailed, realistic animation sequences.
Pros
Speed:
By harnessing the power of the GPU, OctaneRender can create high-quality renders in a fraction of the time it would take with CPU-based rendering.
Quality:
The physically-based approach produces highly realistic images with accurate lighting, reflections, and materials.
Flexibility:
Its node-based system and wide range of supported materials and effects give artists a wealth of creative control.
Limitations
Hardware dependency:
OctaneRender’s performance is highly dependent on the quality and power of the GPUs available. High-end GPUs are often required for optimal performance.
Learning curve:
The node-based workflow and extensive feature set can be challenging for new users to learn and master.
Overall, OctaneRender is a top choice for artists and professionals looking for a fast, high-quality rendering solution that takes advantage of the power of modern GPUs.
Installation
1. Delete c4doctane if present from C:\Program Files\Maxon Cinema 4D 2023\plugins
2. Delete C:\Users[your username]\AppData\Local\OctaneRender
3. Copy the OctaneRenderer folder to C:\Users[your username]\AppData\Local
4. Copy and then run “YellowStar.exe” in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
5. Copy the c4doctane folder and the “YellowStar.xdl64” file to C:\Program Files\Maxon Cinema 4D 2023\plugins
6. It is advisable to block the YellowStar.exe file from accessing the Internet through a Firewall.
Then add this file “YellowStar.exe” to the exception list of your security software.

Instructions
——————————————————————————————————————————————–
1. Clear all Octane plugins in the “plugins” directory
(Octane plugins recorded in the plugins +preferences project
in the installation directory should be completely deleted).
2. Delete everything from the “OctaneRender” folder in the path: “C:\Users \[Your username]\AppData\Local\OctaneRender”
Inside the “OctaneRender” folder, create the “thirdparty” folder and transfer the “cudnn_8_0_4” file to it
(This should be the way to go: C:\Users \[Your username]\AppData\Local\OctaneRender\thirdparty\cudnn_8_0_4)
3. In this directory (create a new one if you don’t have one):
C:\Users \[Your username]\AppData\Roaming\OctaneRender
Delete all the files and copy the two files “license” and “otoy_credentials” into it
4. Copy “YellowStar.exe” on the way:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp
5. Copy “c4doctane” and “YellowStar.xdl64” to the “plugins” folder
Eg:
Installation directory C:\Program Files\Maxon Cinema 4D R24\plugins
Installation directory C:\Program Files\Maxon Cinema 4D R25\plugins
Installation directory C:\Program Files\Maxon Cinema 4D R26\plugins
Installation directory C:\Program Files\Maxon Cinema 4D 2023\plugins

• Replacement and syncing of minor versions: only switching and syncing of
minor versions 2022.1 R1-R10 is supported, other versions will hang!!!
(Switching to a smaller version is the same method as sinicizing)
• Precautions: One of the basic rules to understand is that when replacing, do not move the Libs300 file to the Octane file, do not replace it!!!
2022.1 Description of the minor version R1-R10: It is known that there is an error in the minor version R10, due to which more than two light sources do not work (this is a window update problem,
you need to update manually every time you add a light source), do not use it. At the moment, there is no error found in R6 R8.
• Method:
① Find 2022.1 R6 or R8, download the original version in Chinese or English and delete the internal libs300 folder (it is not in use).*
Copy only the res folder and the corresponding c4dOctane-Rxx xdl64 files (for example, copy R26 to R26 and copy 2023 to 2023)
② Paste it into the c4doctane folder in the installation directory C:\Program Files\Maxon Cinema 4D 2023\plugins and replace (remember that you cannot move the libs300 folder to this folder, do not replace her, she will disappear as soon as she moves).
③ If you want to replace it again, first delete the c4doctane folder in the installation directory C:\Program Files\Maxon Cinema 4D 2023\plugins, follow step 5 to copy the version of the c4doctane file to “plugins” and replace it again.

Using OC when using a proxy server (ladder):
Description: Before turning on OC (it doesn’t matter if the agent was turned on before turning on C4D), you must turn off the system agent (otherwise it will conflict, just
restart C4D after the card freezes). After enabling OC, switch the system agent. the agent will not affect this.
decision:
Method 1. If the proxy server software supports tun mode, enable tun mode and disable the system proxy server so that you can use OC without worrying about anything.
(note that the tun mode in some programs reduces the speed of the proxy server).
Method 2. If the proxy server software does not support tun mode, log out of the proxy server software immediately before turning on the operating system,
and then turn on the proxy server software after turning on the operating system.
