MSC Dytran Overview

MSC.Dytran is a system for analyzing highly nonlinear fast-flowing processes associated with the interaction of various parts of a structure, a structure and a structure, as well as a structure and a liquid (gas).

MSC Dytran Features

  • Typical applications of MSC.Dytran include vehicle-obstacle-passenger-airbag interactions during crash inflation, bird strikes on aircraft structures, ship collisions and groundings, explosions in confined spaces, projectile impacts on and through obstacles, meteorite impacts on spacecraft skin, metal stamping, fluid behavior in partially filled containers, and other problems.
  • MSC.Dytran is based on an explicit method for integrating differential equations over time. This eliminates the need for large matrix decomposition, which takes up most of the processor time when solving highly nonlinear problems. The program is fully vectorized and can be effectively used on computers that support parallel data processing.
  • The technology for solving nonlinear structural dynamics problems is based on developments originally performed at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory. Algorithms for modeling the interaction of a structure and a liquid (gas) originate from the developments of the Dutch company Pisces International (acquired by MSC in 1990), subsequently developed by MSC.Software Corporation. To solve such problems, MSC.Dytran uses the Euler formulation.
  • Due to its ability to solve highly nonlinear problems of analyzing heterogeneous media, MSC.Dytran is effectively used in the automotive, aerospace, defense and other industries.
