To perform 2D-3D machining, Mastercam for SolidWorks has the powerful functionality of Automatic processing design based on recognition of geometry elements (Feature Based Machining – FBM).
By analyzing a part for specific geometry elements (surface, size, hole pattern, etc.), FBM automatically creates an effective processing strategy for the recognized elements.

Among the main functions, the following should be noted:
* Trimming in case of detection of an allowance above the surface of the part.
* Processing of open, nested and through pockets.
* Roughing and finishing trajectories for each pocket.
* Recognize holes and create centering, drilling, reaming, chamfering, and threading operations according to specified criteria.

High-speed machining (HSP) provides technologies for the fastest processing and obtaining excellent surface quality of products. Mastercam for SolidWorks includes a set of fully associative, high-speed machining toolpaths that let you get the most out of your CNC equipment.

* The “Main Retrieval” and “Area Clearing” strategies effectively remove the bulk of the stock by using toolpaths that are configured to “scrape” the workpiece or “gnaw” material out of cavities.
* The “Refinishing” strategy smoothly removes the allowance remaining after previous roughing passes.
* Using a constant 3D step between passes, the Scallop finishing strategy produces the same surface quality (roughness) on inclined and flat surfaces of the part.
* The Horizontal Areas finishing strategy quickly machines flat, horizontal surfaces on the part.
* “Spiral”, “Radial” and “Raster” machining strategies provide extensive possibilities for machining different types of parts.

* The “pencil” strategy creates tool movements along the intersection lines of solid body faces in order to process hard-to-reach areas of the part.

Verification of solid body processing with simulated material removal allows you to check trajectories before they are actually processed on the machine.
Mastercam gives you confidence that your equipment can handle any level of processing complexity. Using Mastercam’s toolpath checking tools, you can easily ensure that toolpaths and movements are created exactly the way you want them.

* Viewing and measurement of the part are available during the verification process of processing a solid part from a solid workpiece. During the machining simulation, the tool and chuck are displayed and checked for gouge. video
* It is possible to draw trajectories using the “Backplot” tool and obtain the processing cycle time. Dynamic viewing of all necessary information about the tool and operation is available at any point in the trajectory, as well as scaling of individual areas for a more detailed view.
