FaceTime
- With spatial audio, the voices of participants in group FaceTime calls are heard from the directions where the participants appear on the screen.
- Voice Isolation mode blocks background noise so your voice sounds crystal clear.
- In wide spectrum mode, you hear all surrounding sounds during a call.
- Portrait mode on Macs with the M1 chip puts the spotlight on your image and blurs the background.
- In grid view, participants appear in equal-sized cells, and the participant who is currently speaking is highlighted on the screen.
- FaceTime links let you invite friends on Apple, Android, or Windows devices.
Messages
- Sent to You displays content sent to you in Messages in the corresponding app on your Mac.
- A new Sent to You section is available in apps like Photos, Safari, Podcasts, and Apple TV.
- Multiple photos sent in Messages are displayed in a collage or stack.
Safari
- Tab groups let you save and organize your tabs, and sync them across devices.
- Tracking Prevention prevents trackers from viewing your IP address.
- By choosing a compact tab bar, you can display more content on the screen.
Focus
- Focus allows you to automatically filter notifications based on your current activities.
- You can set focus for activities such as work, video games, reading or personal time.
- Focusing applies to all Apple devices.
- People in your contact list will see that you have notifications turned off.
Notes and Quick Note
- Quick Note lets you take notes in any app or website and then easily return to them later.
- Tags help you quickly organize your notes by topic for easy searching.
- Mention support makes it possible to notify other participants about important changes to shared notes.
- Activity mode displays the authors of recent changes to a shared note.
AirPlay Casting to Mac
- AirPlay Casting to Mac lets you stream content from your iPhone or iPad directly to your Mac.
- AirPlay speakers support music playback through your Mac audio system.
Online Text
- System-wide Online Text makes photo text interactive.
- The text shown in the photo can be copied, translated and searched.
Quick Commands
- The new app helps you automate everyday tasks and get them done faster.
- The gallery contains ready-made shortcut commands that can be added and run anywhere in the system.
- In the quick command editor you can create your own commands for your work tasks.
- Automator workflows can be automatically converted into shortcuts.
Maps
- An interactive 3D globe displays mountains, oceans, and other landscapes in even greater detail on Macs with the M1 chip.
- Detailed city maps show elevations, trees, buildings, landmarks, and more on Macs with the M1 chip.
Privacy
- The Mail Privacy Shield feature prevents senders from monitoring your activities in Mail.
- When an app is using the microphone, a recording indicator appears in Control Center.
iCloud+
- iCloud Private Site (beta) prevents companies from creating a detailed profile of your Safari activity.
- The “Hide e-mail” function creates unique random e-mail addresses with redirection to your mailbox.
