macOS High Sierra Overview

New technologies used in the operating system make the Mac more reliable, functional, and faster. And they lay the foundation for future innovations. macOS High Sierra also improves the features and apps you use every day. macOS takes it to the next level.

macOS High Sierra Features

• Move mountains with new technology. The new core technologies in macOS High Sierra have improved the core features of the Mac. Today, the Mac is a new storage architecture, with improved video viewing capabilities, and full access to powerful GPUs. And not only.
• Apple’s file system. New top data management. Documents. Photographs. Mail. Application. Everything that matters to you is perceived by Mac as data. And the file system is responsible for organizing this data into files and folders and giving you access to them. Our previous file system was designed for early Macs and did its job just fine. But today’s Mac runs on flash drives, and that opens up a lot of room for innovation. Therefore, the time has come to lay the foundation for the future. With macOS High Sierra, we’re bringing Apple’s file system to the Mac for the first time, with an improved architecture that provides a new level of security and speed.
• HEVC. A new video standard. In response to the growing popularity of 4K video, the Mac is responding to the new HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) standard, also known as H.265.1, which can compress video up to 40% more than the current H.264 standard. As a result, HEVC video files transfer faster and take up less space without sacrificing quality.
• Metal 2. New graphics rules. Today, the GPU is more important than ever to get the most out of your Mac experience. And GPUs are becoming more and more powerful. Metal technology built into macOS allows apps to get the most out of your computer’s graphics. Its new version, Metal 2, is not only a new level of image quality, but also machine learning capability, support for virtual reality and external GPUs in entertainment and professional applications. With Metal 2, you’ll be able to unleash your imagination — whether you’re playing games, creating content, or developing software.
• Virtual reality for Mac. A brave new world. With macOS High Sierra, developers will be able to create interactive virtual reality experiences on the Mac for the first time. This is possible on the new iMac with Retina 5K display, the new iMac Pro, and other supported Mac models when you connect an external graphics card. The system has improved support for Valve’s SteamVR glasses and the HTC Vive VR headset. Particular attention is paid to the performance of visual content creation applications such as Final Cut Pro X, Epic Unreal 4 Editor, and Unity Editor. Now the developers have everything to immerse you in exciting new worlds.

Note

To be able to install applications not only from installed developers and the App Store, but from all sources, open Terminal and enter the command:

Code:

sudo spctl --master-disable

How to install?

Renewal:

[*] 1. Mount the disk image
[*] 2. Copy “Installing macOS High Sierra” to the “Applications”
folder
[*] 3. Launch the copied application

Clean install from a USB stick:

[*]Step one
1. Mount the downloaded macOS 10.13.6 High Sierra.dmg
2 image. A window will appear with the file “Install macOS High Sierra.app”
3. This file needs to be moved to the Programs folder[*] Either use DiskMaker X or Install Disk Creator, skip all of the following and immediately proceed to the fourth step.

[*]Step Two
Format the drive in Mac OS Extended (journal) format with the GUID:
1. partition scheme. Open the Disk Utility, select the drive (flash drive).
2. Select the “Disk Partition” tab, select “Partition 1” in the list of partitions.
3. Open “Options”, select the GUID partition scheme.
4. In the “Format” column, select Mac OS Extended.
5. The “name” is USB. Click “Apply”.Note: In OS X El Capitan and later, the format is called OS X Extended (journaled).

[*]Step Three
1. Start the Terminal program (Programs/Utilities/Terminal), insert the following command (the command is entered without line wrapping – just copy and paste it in its entirety) and press Enter, confirm the action by entering the administrator password: (despite the fact that the password will not be displayed when typing, it is still entered).

Code:

sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ High\ Sierra.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/USB --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ macOS\ High\ Sierra.app --nointeraction

After 10-15 minutes, the Terminal will complete the creation of the bootable flash drive. In the process, you will see the following:

Code:

Erasing Disk: 0%… 10%… 20%… 30%… 100%…
Copying installer files to disk…
Copy complete.
Making disk bootable…
Copying boot files…
Copy complete.
Done.

When the Done inscription appears, your bootable flash drive will be ready.

[*]Step FourIf all the necessary backups have been made, you can proceed with a clean install. Restart the computer with the USB drive connected by holding alt (Option) at startup. Select our flash drive, go to Disk Utility in the window that appears, erase the drive of our Mac (in no case confuse it with a flash drive) and proceed to install High Sierra.

Apple (APFS), Fusion Drive, HDD, SSD:

The Apple File System (APFS) is the default file system on MacOS High Sierra computers for Mac with all flash drives. APFS supports strong encryption, space sharing, snapshots, fast directory sizes, and improved file system fundamentals.
When you install macOS High Sierra on a Mac volume of a solid-state drive (SSD) or other flash storage device, that volume is automatically converted to APFS. Fusion drives, traditional hard drives (hard drives), and non-Mac volumes are not converted. You can’t stop switching to APFS.Computers equipped with Fusion Drive hybrid drive systems will continue to run on HFS+.Details here…To install macOS High Sierra and skip the conversion of HFS+ to APFS, you need to perform the following steps:- Move the installer “Install macOS High Sierra.app” to the Applications folder;- Open “Terminal” and enter the command:

Code:

/Applications/Install\ macOS\ High\ Sierra.app/Contents/Resources/startosinstall --converttoapfs NO

– Press “Enter” and start the macOS High Sierra installation process.

“The copy of the program is corrupted and cannot be used to install macOS”

If a clean installation from a flash drive gives an error with a corrupted installer:1) From under a working macOS, insert a flash drive and go to it. Right-click on the .app file -> Show package contents. Next, go to Contents -> SharedSupport and delete the InstallInfo.plist file in this folder. Reboot from the flash drive and voila!2) Before starting, the installer checks with the server and downloads the certificate (you must connect to the network: at the top right on the “antennas” and connect to your Wi-Fi). A “untrusted_cert_file” error may occur.
At the top, open the utilities -> Terminal. In the Terminal, write date MMDDHHMMYY. MM — month. DD — day. HH is an hour. MM is a minute. YY is the last 2 digits of the year. For example, today is June 12, 2017, the current time is 02:12, so the command in the terminal will look like this: date 0612021217. Tap Enter, close the Terminal (cmd + q) and install the system.
