Description
Bella Render Overview
Bella is a modern spectral renderer built from the ground up to achieve unrivaled realism.
Taking a physics-based approach, it not only creates truly photographic images, but does so with a predictability that makes it easy to use and increases productivity.
With its flexible node system and intuitive physical models of materials and cameras, Bella aims to help you unleash your true potential as a digital artist and photographer.
Bella Render Features
SPECTRAL RENDERING
Bella works in spectral space, allowing effects such as BSDF wavelength dependence, diffraction or atmosphere to be modeled much more accurately than in color space.
COMPREHENSIVE CAUSTICS
Bella Apollo’s solver is capable of solving caustics through specular surfaces, for accurate rendering of swimming pool caustics, caustics visible through windows, emitters enclosed in glass, etc.
LAYERED MATERIALS
Bella’s materials provide real layers with internal subsurface scattering. Light interacts very effectively physically with the substrate, layer and thin films.
THIN FILM
The Thin Film assembly, which can be deposited on a material layer or substrate, simulates nanometer-scale film, providing physically accurate iridescence.
NESTED DIELECTRICS
The nested priority feature in Bella materials allows for the correct and convenient display of intersecting dielectric (e.g. glass, liquid) volumes.
COMPREHENSIVE IOR
The comprehensive material provides a simple way to use spectral refractive index measurement data. The use of external files or IOR data is not necessary.
SMART MATERIALS
Bella Smart Materials provide a fast and easy way to create and use metals, ceramics and plastics with just a few simple parameters.
TEXTURES
Like everything else, textures in Bella are node-based, allowing the output of one texture to be used as input to another.
PERVASIVE INSTANTATION
Bella provides extensive support for instantiation – indeed, everything seen in Bella’s scene is essentially an instance.
PHYSICAL SKY AND SUN
Bella’s physical model of the sun and sky can be controlled by date/time and location or by explicitly specifying a direction.
PROCEDURAL LIGHTS
Bella offers several types of built-in procedural lights including spot, spot, area and directional.

System Requirements
Bella only supports 64-bit machines and operating systems. It is recommended to have at least 8 GB of memory, but 16 GB or more is usually preferable. Bella itself is very compact, but it may require large files when using it, so you should have enough disk space (preferably SSD).
On Windows, we support working with version 8 and above. Bella may work with earlier versions, but we do not officially support them.
Bella for Rhino supports work in Rhino 6, Rhino 7, SketchUp 2017 and later, Maya 2018 and 2019. The plugins include a local copy of the Bella GUI, so this is all you need if you are a content creator.
